Everybody wants to belong. Be part of something big. Religion provides that place where we can belong.
Christianity even more so with every denominations having church groups for humanitarian purposes, bible study groups and other activities.
Yet you still have people knocking at your door asking you to join their churches to have eternal life with God. That only people who believe the same as them will be safe.
How is it in other Faiths? Do you try to recruit members? Believe that you need to save souls from wondering to the wrong path?

My religion is non missionary. We only talk to others about our beliefs if they ask us. 'Cause nothing is more annoying than a small army of Jehovas Witnesses banging on your door at 8 AM on a Saturday.
Being a part of something bigger, with a sense of purpose is a great thing. Unfortunately this also means some people join up with Scientology or suicide cults.

Here is a quote from the book in this category The Reason for God: "It is no more narrow to claim that one religion is right than to claim that one way to think about all religions (namely that all are equal) is right. We are all exclusive in our beliefs about religion, but in different ways.
